Laser hair removal requires multiple treatments. This is because the laser works best when hairs are in an early growth stage, known as anagen. Because all hairs are not in the same growth phase at the same time, multiple treatments are required. Most clients need anywhere from 4 to 8 treatments on a particular area of the body, depending on factors such as hair colour, skin colour, and the texture and amount of hair.
The length of each treatment depends on the client; while laser hair removal permanently removes the hairs damaged during treatment and permanently reduces the number of hairs in the affected area, the degree to which clients experience growth of new hairs is variable. Some clients will also require touch-up treatments.
Because the treatment depends on chromophores (specific parts of hair molecules responsible for pigmentation) to absorb the beam of concentrated light, laser hair removal works best on patients with darker hair. However, the same ChillTip Technology that cools the patient’s skin and reduces pain also reduces competing chromophores, typically allowing for removal of fine and light hair.
